Below are a few highlights from this issue ~ the design and layout is a bit cleaner than before ~ a fresher and more contemporary approach to country. The fonts used throughout the issue are elegant and feminine, yet inviting and easy to read ~ I think the whole issue has a kind of relaxing and serene quality to it. I love that all of the rooms look comfortable and lived in ~ they seem attainable to me (a person with alot of stuff!). There are many different features throughout the magazine ~ I've just shown a few of my favorites ~ I especially like the hunting & gathering section and the ideas for reusing vintage finds. Then, my absolute favorite ~ antiquers & junkers and their favorite finds!
As I was leafing through the issue I came upon the page below and noticed something familiar......are you thinking what I'm thinking? You know how sometimes you are out and about and you see something you haven't seen before ~ then, the rest of the day you end up seeing 2 or 3 more? Maybe it's because you've just never noticed it before ~ or maybe it is just a freaky coincidence ~ but this sort of thing happens to me ALL the time!
In this instance, the metal cabinet with the 30 drawers that I posted about here is buried on page 21 of this issue (see it hiding there in the background?)! I wonder if theirs was sponge painted when they got it?! I find it so weird that I haven't seen such a thing for years ~ then, in the space of a week I see two! I am happy to see a different solution for the redo ~ now, in case the brushed metal idea doesn't work out I have a Plan B ~ paint it white!

Wow - I can't believe it. Now I have one more thing to add to my to-do list today - find that magazine! And I can't wait to see how your cabinet turns out - ANYTHING is better than sponge-paint.
Going to Costco tonight. I miss all those defunct home magazines too (and this one looks like a good one!). I know about things appearing for the first time several times at once. What's up with that?
Funny thing -- I live in CT and have gone to tag sales just about every friday and saturday for over 20 years. I am always drawn to cubbies and anything in the industrial or organizing category.
Right after your post I found a similar cabinet (not sponged) for 20 bucks WoooHoo!
I unpacked and discarded about 12 cardboard boxes (and bubble wrap) filled with small breakables Categorized them and stored them into the metal cabinet until I can afford to have some custom cabinets built to display the things properly. There is so much more space in my garage and I can find the small items quickly now that they are categorized in the cabinet.
I'm so happy Country Home is making a comeback.
Plan A or Plan B- whatever you do with that cabinet it's going to be fabulous.
Anonymous: Wow - you did get a great deal! I felt like I got a good deal and I spent $75. Just the thought of being organized is motivating me to get this project finished - I'm crossing my fingers for good weather this weekend!
Thanks for all of the comments!
Country Home and the Home Companion magazines are the two that I most miss. I'm still trying to find the first issue of Country Home but have not been able to find it here. We don't have a Costco, but maybe at Barnes and Noble....I hope.
I can't wait to see how the cabinet turns out.
I found mine at Barnes & Noble!
I found mine at Barnes & Noble!
I'm having a hard time finding the first one, too. Got the "Fall" issue today.
I'm also not finding a way to subscribe to it. What in the world? :)
I don't understand why the publisher is not
notifying former subscribers. They are missing
the boat on this one. I can't figure out how to
get a subscription! Does anyone know??
